Echo Dot vs. Echo Dot Kids Edition

The new version of the Echo Dot Kids has the same specs as the third-gen Echo Dot.

Both devices have a diameter of 3.9,  are 1.7 inches tall and weigh 10.6 ounces.

Like the previous edition of the Echo Dot Kids Edition, which had a seven-microphone array, the new Kids Edition and the third-gen Echo Dot both have a four-microphone voice recognition array system, but they have a larger 1.6-inch speaker unit.

To use with external speakers, each system has the same 3.5 mm stereo audio output, as well as Bluetooth capabilities.

Straight out of the box, because of the bright colors and kid-friendly user guide, you can tell the device is geared for kids.

In this edition, Alexa is sweeter, reacting with tales and age-appropriate answers.

One of the key differences with the Kids Version is that it filters out Amazon Music’s explicit lyrics, and disables voice buying, news, and question-and-answer scenarios on mature themes.

Parents should specify the age range of their child to help filter out content based on the age of their child.

You can also enable parental controls to restrict the number of hours your child can use their Echo, monitor messages, and restrict the hours that Alexa reacts to them (so they don’t goof off while they are supposed to sleep).

You can access a parental dashboard, where you can monitor and set limits on how much time your child spends on viewing entertainment and filtering content based on different age groups.
