Samsung refrigerators are among the smartest appliances available.

They include features such as digital displays and touch buttons that offer great conveniences for smarter living.

However, sometimes the need will arise for you to reset your Samsung fridge.

There are various reasons this may happen, and we will discuss all of them.

In order to RESET Samsung refrigerator, there are a couple of ways to do it. One of them is to turn the dedicated power breaker OFF for 2 minutes and then turn it ON. If this method will not work, you can RESET refrigerator main control board by pressing and holding POWER FREEZE and POWER COOL buttons until you hear a chime.

How To Hard Reset Your Samsung Fridge

Method #1 (not always works, but try)

If your Samsung fridge is not functioning properly, and you think it could benefit from a reset simply follow the steps below to perform a reset:

Turn off the refrigerator and unplug it from the wall or turn breaker OFF.

Next, you’ll need to wait between 10 and 15 minutes before restoring the power.

This downtime allows your Samsung fridge control board to reboot.

Restore power.

Once you plug it in and turn the power back on it should be fully reset. But if this option will not work for you, try Method #2

Method #2

Depends on the model of your fridge you need to press 2 buttons to reset.

When two buttons are pushed simultaneously there will be no sound, if you hear a sound, stop and start over.

Press and hold the two buttons simultaneously until display will start flashing at least 2-3 times.

After this procedure, you will be able to read error codes if they are present.

After 1 or 2 minutes of beeping, fridge will reset the computer and come back to normal operation.

How To Reset Samsung Fridge Filter

Do you have a French door Samsung refrigerator that keeps reminding you to change the water filter?

Remember that regularly changing the filter will provide you with water that is clean and fresh at all times.

These filters should be changed every 6 months, or depending on how much water you use.

The indicator light will change colors to tell you how soon you need to change it.

The colors will vary depending on the model you have, but regardless, red is always the last stage.

After you’ve purchased a new filter and replaced it, you’ll simply press one of the following buttons (check your owner’s manual) and hold for 3 – 5 seconds to reset the filter light:

How to Reset Samsung Refrigerator From Demo Mode

Is your fridge showing “OF OF” or “O FF”?

When Samsung refrigerators are on display in a store they are in what’s called “demo mode”.

This allows potential customers to see the lights and other features without the compressor engaging.

In other words, there is no cooling function running while on display in a store.

If you recently purchased a new Samsung fridge and the store forgot to disable this mode, or if someone in your home accidentally hit the wrong button and put the fridge into this mode you’ll follow these steps to return the unit to cooling:

The specific buttons may be named differently depending on the model you have, but they are always in the same location.

2 TOP LEFT BUTTONS and RIGHT TOP BUTTON (for some models)

  1. Press and hold ENERGY SAVER and POWER FREEZE simultaneously until you hear a chime.
  2. The display should be gone if those were the correct buttons for your model. If they did not, move onto step #3.
  3. Press and hold ENERGY SAVER, POWER FREEZE, and LIGHTING simultaneously until you hear a chime.
  4. The demo display should be gone within a few seconds, and you’ll hear your fridge begin to cool again.

How To Reset Samsung Fridge After A Power Outage

After a power outage it may be necessary to reset your Samsung fridge, as the power may not come back right away.

It can result in the refrigerator’s processor becoming locked.

Here’s what you do after your power is restored:

  1. Unplug the unit from the wall
  2. Wait for at least 30 seconds
  3. Plug the unit back into the wall

When the power is restored your fridge may power up correctly, but the display may show the actual temperature rather than the factory default temperatures you had set.

If this is the case, you’ll have to set the unit to “Power Cool” and “Power Freeze” modes until it reaches the desired temperatures again.

Also, keep in mind that power surges can damage the unit and cause a failure to be detected.

If this occurs you’ll need to contact Samsung and register for an “Online Service Center Request”.

How To Reset Samsung Fridge Touch Screen

The touch screen on your Samsung fridge is designed to time out after a period of inactivity.

Although it’s also programmed to respond to new activity, sometimes it doesn’t do this.

If your touch screen is not responding here is how you reset it:

There is a removable panel located at the top of the right refrigerator door. You’ll find it at the right, top corner of this door on the inside. Simply push the panel upwards to open it.

Find the red switch located inside this door.

Check the status of the switch to see if it’s ON or OFF.

The switch is ON if it’s facing the line on the right side.

If the switch is currently ON, go ahead and switch it OFF and wait about 15 seconds before turning it back on. You should see the Samsung logo as the touch screen boots back up.

If the switch is currently OFF, go ahead and turn it back ON.

If the brand logo doesn’t appear after about 15 seconds, you’ll need to repeat step #2.

If you try this multiple times and the touch screen still remains blank you may need to contact Samsung for service.

How To Reset Samsung Fridge Ice Maker

Depending on what model Samsung fridge you have, there are a few different ways to reset the ice maker.

We will give you tips below for both bottom mount and French door refrigerators.

Just keep in mind that there are 2 types of French door ice makers – the flex tray design and a heated tray design.

Bottom Mount & French Door Flex Tray Design Models

Before we begin, it’s important to note that you should never reset your ice maker more than once in a 24-hour period.

Doing so may cause the ice tray to overfill which leads to water pouring directly into the bucket and freezing.

You will not be able to dispense ice if this occurs.

  1. You will need to locate the reset switch. This is usually underneath the ice maker, past the front cover. Simply press and hold this button until you hear the ice tray motor kick on.
  2. Close the freezer door and then wait up to 24-hours for operations to return to normal.

French Door Heated Tray Model

It’s important to keep in mind that this model can take a full 5 to 8 minutes to reset.

  1. Open the left door on your Samsung fridge. Find your ice bucket and press the release latch on the right side of the bucket. This will allow you to pull the bucket out.
  2. Now that the bucket is out of your way, you should see the reset button on the right side of the ice maker. The button is rectangular, translucent, and rubber. If your fridge is newer than 2010, you’ll hear an audible chime once the reset begins. If your unit is older simply hold the button for at least 10 seconds.
  3. Replace the ice bucket and wait up to 24-hours for full ice production.

In conclusion, there are a wide range of reasons your Samsung fridge may need to be reset. Regardless, we’ve covered pretty much every reason above.

Leave us a comment and let us know if have an easier way to perform any of these resets.

  1. I am the second owner of a Samsung RS25H5111SR/AA. Phew. The freezer temp on the display panel continuously blinks -8. It returns to blinking after I’ve tried to set it to 1 Fahrenheit. The top shelf is not going to an adequate freezer temperature by any means.
I have had to get most of my display panel information online. The manual hasn’t been particularly helpful.
    Thank you!

  2. My Samsung RF4267HA issue is chiming and blinking lights under water and ice outlets. I tried to reset by simultaneously holding Energy Saver and Lighting buttons. I hear a blink, display panel turned blank. But after a minute or so it started all over again.

  3. Hi
    I have RF263BEAESR Samsung.
Deli box lights were blinking and I turned off the breaker and turned on. And now main screen panel shows PC ER. When I am holding energy saver and Alarm button for longer it blinks error 41. It’s not resetting.
Cooling is fine. How should I fix it
    Thanks in Advance.

  4. Good afternoon
The power went out. When power came back on compressor humms but fridge and freezer does not cool.
I have reset fridge thru plug, breaker, and reset on front of fridge.
Replaced small power board on back as well with no luck.
Any thoughts on what the next step may be to get fridge working
    Thank you

    • Give it some time to start cooling, if it will not help, you need to call a technician to take a look at it, cause for me it sounds like the problem with the sealed system.

      • A sealed system (lots of copper and aluminum tubes) where refrigerant moving to cool your fridge. Its not what you can fix, rather call a technician

  5. My refrigerator model is 263BEAESR , the chill tray inside keeps getting full of water, each time I have to take the tray out & empty it as the water will leak on the floor of my house. What’s causing this?

  6. We have the model#263BEAESR and the control panel has randomly been changing its settings since yesterday. There is no set pattern, it can go hours and be fine, and then it will change everything for 30 seconds or more. Its really annoying to have to keep hearing the noises. We have flipped the breaker, and also tried unplugging it for 20 minutes to no avail. we tried to follow your directions to find the red button, but we do not see a panel we can open on the top right of the inside door. Is there anywhere else we can look for a reset?

    • My client had this issue last year, It was fixed by replacing touchpad panel, but there was a different model of Samsung. Here is the one for your model.

  7. Hi Eugene,
The temperature on may Samsung RF25HMEDBSR French Door Refrigerator will start to increase after a manual defrost is complete, the fan and the compressor just won’t start (and sometimes just for no reason this just happens) I’ve done a hard reset, door COM reset, plug out etc. but nothing works. Of course like the amature handyman I am I refuse to leave it be, so I again run manual functions and the fan and compressor run fine ( I tested with FF and OF r fuctions. Then all of a sudden, I’ve done “something” and it works. That’s all fine “Hooray for Dad because the ice cream and leftovers are saved) and I know that you wouldn’t know what it is I did just by what I am saying, but do you know how to fix this problem without two hours of DYI troubleshooting? P.S. thanks for your advice above, I am sure something I read here fixed it, but I am not sure what that was. Should I be waiting for a specific timing before the COM kicks in? I don’t like banging buttons but I think that all I did. I don’t want to toot my own horn just because it’s fixed (mind you, I did) but do you know what is making this happen? Any suggestions?

    • I had this situation before like yours, but what I did, there was a simple reset by pressing POWER FREEZE and POWER COOL and compressor started right away. So, I don’t know exactly what caused this issue. Sounds like something related to the inverter board, that controls compressor

    • That means there was power loss to the fridge, press and hold POWER FREEZE and POWER COOL until you hear a chime. This way you will reset refrigerator.

  8. My Samsung RF197 ACPN had a bad thermal fuse and defrost sensor. I replaced them both now my fridge cools down 1 time to desired temp compressor and fan shuts off and will not come back on unless I reset.

  9. I have a samsung fridge with the big freezer on the bottom. anyway, my fridge part is throwng the E code which means that there was a power outage. I cant get it to reset. any suggestions.

  10. I woke up at 6 o’clock this morning and my model RF28R7351SR samsung refrigerator was “playing a song”..not like an alarm . Reminded me of the “song” that my Samsung washer and dryer plays at the end of a cycle. What was this trying to tell me?

  11. I have a French door with 2 drawer ref. The symbol for the filter that turns colors has disappeared from the display screen hoe do I get it back on the display screen????

  12. after a 7 day power outage the fridge lit up again but the Freezer shows temp of -8* !! how do get it up to 0* ? Any advice would be appreciated Thanks George

      • Please my samsung digital inverter is not work there is light on it but no cooling model Rsa1rtsl1/×me. Prod date 2017

  13. So I’m working through these solutions, and nothing is working so far. My issue is the ‘Ice Off’ button is lit up, and so there’s no more ice left in the tray because there’s been no ice made for over a few days, because I can’t get the ‘ice off’ button to go off- that is become unlit. no matter how I press the button. And all the online help says I have to get that dang button to be unlit so the fridge will produce ice again. Everything else works just fine…just no ice production right now. Any idea’s?

    • Just wondering if you tried a simple power reset, by flipping the breaker? What about the rest of the touch buttons? They are work just fine?

  14. My freezer is only getting as cold as the fridge. Is this a quick fix or is this a part issue? This is a newer model with screen.

    • You mean when you trying to set your fridge to Power Cool and the fridge is beeping? What’s the temp in the fridge?

      • Freezer was not working at all yesterday so I rearranged all of the food, throwing some away because both freezer drawers were fairly packed. I put it on power freeze overnight and food is frozen again this morning. I took it off power freeze this morning and now I’m worried about whether it will keep food frozen without being on the power freeze mode. What do I do if food in the freezer starts to thaw / melt again? We cannot keep the unit on power freeze forever.
