LG Refrigerator Problems You Need To Know

LG refrigerators are known to have problems, just like any other brand on the market. Thankfully, these common problems are well-known, allowing you to prepare for them in advance.

The known problems with LG refrigerators include a unit that won’t get cold, a failed water and ice dispenser, an ice maker that won’t produce any ice, and loud noises coming from inside the compartment. Knowing these known problems allows you to recognize them when they happen and resolve them quickly.

This guide will teach you how to recognize known

LG fridge problems if they happen to you. You’ll also discover why each one happens and how you can resolve them as soon as possible.

How To Troubleshoot LG Refrigerator Problems?

Here are 4 of the most common issues you might run into during your

LG fridge’s lifespan:

#1 Refrigerator Isn’t Getting Cold

Symptoms: The first known issue on this list is a warm refrigerator. You’ll know this problem is happening when the compartments are warm or fail to reach your set temperature, despite the fridge running for more than 24 hours straight.

A new fridge or one that’s been off for extended periods will need at least 24 hours to cool down to your set temperature. If that doesn’t happen, something is wrong.

Why this happens: A warm LG refrigerator could occur due to user error and component failure.

For example, you might have set the fridge temperature too high or left the door open.

Besides that, a failed thermostat or thermistor could also prevent your fridge from cooling.

How to fix: Firstly, check that you’re setting the fridge temperature to 40 degrees Fahrenheit or below. Then, confirm that you’ve closed the door firmly without any air leaking.

You can test the thermistor and thermostat using a multimeter. If either fails to show continuity, you must replace it with a new one.

Unfortunately, neither the thermistor nor the thermostat is repairable components, so a replacement is the only option.

#2 Water And Ice Dispenser Not Working

Symptoms: Water and ice come out from the same dispenser on your LG refrigerator, and this dispenser is known to experience failure after extended use.

The main symptom of dispenser failure is when no water or ice comes out, even when you push the lever for several seconds.

Why this happens: The water and ice dispenser won’t work if the Control Lock is enabled. The Control Lock ensures that no one can operate your fridge while it’s activated.

Besides, the dispenser will fail if there are loose electrical connections, either under the door hinge or for the door switch. The loose connection prevents the necessary electrical power and signals from activating the dispenser when you try to use it.

How to fix: Firstly, disable the Control Lock feature if enabled. Then, check the electrical connections underneath the door hinge and for the door switch.

Suppose you find that one or both of those connectors are loose or have come undone. In that case, you must push them back into place firmly.

#3 Ice Maker Isn’t Making Ice

Symptoms: Like other parts of your LG refrigerator, the ice maker needs several hours to cool down. Only then can it freeze water into ice that gradually fills up the ice bin.

However, if the ice bin is still empty even after 24 hours, that’s a clear symptom that your ice maker isn’t working.

Why this happens: The ice maker will stop making ice if it’s experiencing an error, its moving parts are frozen, or it has no incoming water supply.

The ice maker might have made a batch of ice successfully. However, an error or frozen moving parts will prevent it from dumping that ice into the bin and making new batches.

Meanwhile, a lack of incoming water means the ice maker has nothing to freeze into ice cubes in the first place. This is likely because the water inlet valve is faulty and failing to let water in or because of an issue with the water line that connects to it.

How to fix: Firstly, reset your ice maker to clear any errors it might be experiencing. For most models, you can do that by pressing and holding the TEST/FILL button. Doing that will also force the ice maker to cycle and continue freezing new batches of ice.

Then, check that the ice maker is receiving a water supply. Next, ensure that the water line behind your fridge is open and free from bends or kinks.

If the problem is caused by a faulty water inlet valve, you’ll have to purchase a replacement for that part.

#4 Noisy Or Loud Fridge

Symptoms: LG refrigerators don’t make loud noises while running, for the most part. The only exception is that you might hear the appliance humming gently or the compressor turning on.

However, these appliances are another known issue with loud vibrating and grinding noises from inside the compartments.

Upon closer inspection, you’ll find that those noises come from the air vents at the back of the compartment, where the evaporator fans are located.

Why this happens: Loud vibrating or grinding noises from the evaporator fans are caused by ice buildups around the fan blades. More specifically, what’s happening is the fan blades are continuously hitting the ice as they turn.

The ice buildups start off as frost inside the fridge compartment. Then, warm air and the moisture it carries enter the compartment and get frozen because of the low temperatures, producing frost.

That frost eventually builds up until it becomes solid ice, especially around the air vents and evaporator fans. Then, finally, the ice grows large enough to obstruct the fan blade’s path enough that the blades keep hitting it.

How to fix: You’ll have to melt the ice away to solve this issue. Unfortunately, that can be tricky unless you’re willing to shut your fridge off and leave the doors open until it thaws out.

Alternatively, you can put a pot of hot water inside the compartment. The steam from that water will melt away all ice and frost that’s built up in your refrigerator.

Once there’s no more ice, the fan blades can turn freely without grinding or vibrating noises.
