Whether you have recently experienced a power outage or just want to fix the settings on your Frigidaire refrigerator, you may need to reset it. Thankfully, you can follow some basic, simple steps to get this done.
To reset your Frigidaire refrigerator, you should start by unplugging it for about 15 minutes. Once you plug it back in, hold the “power cool” and “power freezer” buttons simultaneously. After a few seconds, the refrigerator will restart and begin cooling again.
Let’s get into more detail about these steps and get your refrigerator reset.
1. Unplug the Refrigerator
Whatever brand of refrigerator you have, when it’s not working, it can be concerning and annoying.
The first step in resetting your Frigidaire refrigerator is to unplug it. Keep in mind this is okay to do for short durations as needed. You only need to leave it unplugged for about 15 minutes to allow it to reset.
Unplugging the refrigerator for a short time can help the entire system reboot. This can help fix issues with the compressor, the temperature system, and many other things that can go wrong. The refrigerator will reset if you leave it unplugged for about 15 minutes. You will then be able to input your preferred settings again.
If you are worried about the food inside of your refrigerator, the FDA reports that refrigerators remaining unopened can keep food cold for about 4 hours. So, you don’t have to perry about anything in your refrigerator spoiling during this step.
If your power recently went out and you are looking to reset the refrigerator, please wait for it to cool the food before unplugging it. This will give the refrigerator time to cool back down. Otherwise, the food may begin to spoil due to the extended outage period.

2. Press and Hold the Power Button
Once you have plugged your refrigerator back in, it may restart automatically. If it doesn’t, then you will need to manually restart your Frigidaire. To do this, you will need to locate the power button and hold it in for about three to five seconds. This will be enough time for it to reboot and begin turning back on.
If your refrigerator doesn’t automatically turn back on, that doesn’t instantly mean something is wrong with it. After the refrigerator remains without power for a duration, the settings will no longer be active. Essentially, it will be like a brand-new appliance. Think of it like a factory reset on a smartphone.

So, hold the power button for about five seconds, and the refrigerator should come back on. During this time, you will need to reset the desired temperature. The refrigerator should begin running to cool itself off almost instantly as you had it turned off for an extended period while it resets.
If this does not work to fully reset your refrigerator, there are other ways you can do it. But these are the recommended first steps to get it to reset as quickly as possible. If the power button does not respond to holding it, give the refrigerator a little more time to power up, as it may need some extra time after being unplugged.

3. Press the “Power Cool” and “Power Freezer” Buttons
After you plug the refrigerator back in, it should reset. If it is working properly, not showing any error messages, and cooling down, you have already fixed the problem. If now, you may need to do a manual reset. Holding the “power cool” and “power freezer” buttons simultaneously for a few seconds will allow the refrigerator to reset itself and begin cooling again.
Once you release these buttons, you should notice that the refrigerator begins running to cool off and working as normal. If you have held these buttons for at least ten seconds without a response from the refrigerator, then you will need to continue on to the next step.
Make sure you open the refrigerator and check the fan in the back. If you can feel the air, it is working. If you don’t feel any air coming from the vent, your refrigerator needs to be reset further, and you should continue to further steps.

4. Hold the “Alarm Reset” Button for a Few Seconds
If the above steps did not get your refrigerator back to working as it should, then you may need to do a little more work to get it done. This doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with your refrigerator. Power outages can greatly affect our appliances. Sometimes even we restore power, our appliances need some extra help to get working properly again.
So, if you are still having issues, try holding the “alarm reset” button on your refrigerator. You only need to hold for about 5 seconds. When you do this, you will notice the button flash. This means that you held it for long enough. Some newer models may also chirp or make a noise indicating you have held the reset button long enough.
Depending on the model of your Frigidaire or the settings you already have in place, you may not experience any noise or indication that it worked. If there is no indication, that is okay. Still, go through the following steps anyway.

5. Press the Down and up Buttons To Complete the Reset
After you have held the “alarm reset” button for about five seconds, quickly move on to this step. As soon as you let go, you will need to press the down arrow button three times consecutively and the up button once. This will send a message to the refrigerator that it needs to reset.
Once you have completed this process successfully, it will ask you to set the temperature to the one you want. Once you choose the temperature that you want, you should begin to notice that the refrigerator begins working. You can usually hear a low hum, which means it is currently cooling. Alternatively, you can reach inside the refrigerator for the fan to feel for air.
6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 As Necessary
If you do not receive the option to reset the temperature and the refrigerator does not begin running after completing the above steps, you may not have done the steps fast enough. You need to press the buttons in steps 4 and 5 in quick succession for them to reset properly.
If you think you went too slow or don’t hear it running, then you can repeat steps 4 and 5 again. Resetting the refrigerator should give you the option to set the temperatures and allow it to run to cool the interior audibly.
Keep in mind that if your refrigerator has had time to recover from being unplugged, it may not need to run immediately after you reset it. So, you may need to wait for a while after these steps to see if it begins to run again shortly. No instantaneous reaction does not always mean there is a problem, but monitor the temperature in your refrigerator carefully after you complete the reset.
Final Thoughts
While you can repeat steps 4 and 5 as necessary, don’t continuously unplug your refrigerator unless you have no perishable food inside. If problems persist with the refrigerator, consider moving perishable items to another place or packing them in ice for now.
If there is no response from your refrigerator after completing these steps, then there may be more wrong with it than just needing a reset. Check out our article “Frigidaire Refrigerator – Not Cooling But Freezer Fine” for troubleshooting tips to get your refrigerator up and running again.
