FRIGIDAIRE Gallery Refrigerator troubleshooting guide: 4 common problems

Frigidaire Gallery refrigerators are a popular choice among buyers. However, despite their reliability, you should still prepare yourself for common refrigerator problems that might affect them.

Some common problems you might face with your Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator include a warm fridge, an ice maker that doesn’t make ice, a failure to defrost automatically, and a water dispenser with no water. Start your troubleshooting process by resetting the fridge to help clear minor errors.

This guide will help you minimize any fridge downtime by telling you about the common problems for Frigidaire Gallery refrigerators.

Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator Troubleshooting Guide

Frigidaire Gallery refrigerators might occasionally experience common fridge problems like the following:

Fridge Is Warm

What parts to check: When the fridge doesn’t reach your set temperature, even after 24 hours, you’ll have to check the condenser coils and the air outlets inside the compartments.

The condenser coil is the part of the fridge’s sealed cooling system that releases heat into the surrounding air. It’s accompanied by a condenser fan that blows air through those coils to help remove heat more efficiently.

Inside the refrigerator’s compartments are several outlets through which cold air is released.

What’s gone wrong: Your Frigidaire gallery refrigerator should never be warm, especially after 24 hours of cooling. So when that happens, the most likely reason is the condenser coil is dirty.

When the coil accumulates too much dirt and debris, it’ll struggle to release the heat it collects inside the unit’s compartments. As a result, it’ll continue recirculating that heat and keep the fridge warm.

Meanwhile, the cold air outlets inside the compartments could also be obstructed. When that happens, the fridge can’t remove heat from inside the compartment or circulate cold air.

That will leave your refrigerator compartments warm even though there’s no problem with the cooling system.

How to fix it: First, clean the dirty condenser coils with a vacuum and a brush. The vacuum helps remove larger and loose pieces of dirt, while the brush enables you to remove stubborn bits from the coils.

Then, rearrange your refrigerator compartment to ensure that none of the air outlets is blocked. That way, cold air can circulate correctly and keep your Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator cool.

Ice Maker Isn’t Making Ice

What parts to check: The ice maker in your Frigidaire Gallery fridge also needs at least 24 hours to produce enough ice. When that doesn’t happen, you’ll have to inspect the ice maker and the connected water line.

What’s gone wrong: The ice maker in a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator and its waterline can become frozen, especially if the freezer is too cold. That will cause two problems to happen.

Firstly, a frozen water line will prevent water from flowing into the ice maker. Without any water, the ice maker can’t do its job.

Besides that, the ice maker might be frozen, which will prevent it from functioning correctly.

Both those problems will prevent you from getting any ice from your Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator.

How to fix it: You must take two steps to fix this problem. Firstly, adjust the freezer temperature to something more reasonable to prevent freezing from happening. Leaving it at 0 degrees Fahrenheit is enough to keep your ice maker working while also storing your frozen food safely.

However, you’ll have to defrost the ice maker to remove all ice currently affecting it. You can do that by going through the fridge’s settings to the Options menu, then selecting Ice Maker, and shutting the ice maker off.

Doing so will allow the ice maker to defrost, though the process will take a long time. Depending on how severe the ice buildup is, you can expect it to take up to 24 hours to melt your frozen ice maker.

Fridge Doesn’t Defrost Automatically

What parts to check: All refrigerators defrost automatically at least once daily, including your Frigidaire Gallery unit. When that doesn’t happen in yours, you’ll have to check the defrost heater responsible for getting the job done.

The defrost heater is concealed behind the refrigerator compartment’s rear panel.

What’s gone wrong: In this case, the defrost heater has failed. As a result, it can’t produce enough heat (if it produces any) to melt away the normal ice and frost buildup in the compartment.

More specifically, the heating element can’t conduct any electrical current from one point to another. So, it doesn’t make any heat during the defrost cycle, even though the fridge tries to turn it on.

How to fix it: Unfortunately, a failed defrost heater must be replaced with another one that works. You’ll have to undo and remove the rear panel to expose the heating element and then disconnect it.

Then, attach a compatible replacement the same way before reattaching the panel.

Water Dispenser Has No Water

What parts to check: When there’s no water coming from the water dispenser, focus your attention on the water inlet valve.

As the name suggests, that’s the valve on the Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator that controls the water inflow. When the fridge’s reservoir runs low, the valve will open to refill it with clean water.

Then, the valve will shut to prevent the appliance from overflowing with water.

What’s gone wrong: The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled mechanical component. That means it has moving parts that can wear out and fail.

So, a lack of water from the water dispenser means the inlet valve won’t open to let water in, even though the refrigerator is telling it to.

How to fix it: Water inlet valves that don’t work correctly must be inspected. That’s because some of them can be saved instead of being replaced.

For example, suppose the valve is affected by a sediment buildup around its opening. In that case, you can clean it thoroughly to get it working again.

However, if the valve has failed entirely, the only solution is to replace it with a new one. A new water inlet valve will restore the fridge’s ability to control water inflow, allowing it to refill its reservoir and supply the water dispenser.
