5 LG Dishwasher Problems You Need To Know- Easy how to fix it

LG is a leading appliance manufacturer with popular dishwashers. However, their dishwashers are prone to problems and breakage like any other appliance.

To find out about the five most common problems of LG dishwashers, read on.

LG dishwasher problems discussed in this article: dishwasher not draining, wash motor failed, DW not turning on, leaking on the floor, and leaking into drain pan (triggering flood switch).

LG Dishwasher Problems

1.     Dishwasher Not Draining (OE Error Code)

The most common problem of LG dishwashers, and dishwashers in general, is that the dishwasher does not drain.

Whenever there is an issue with your LG dishwasher draining, you will see the OE Error Code appear on your dishwasher’s display.

Typically, this error code is easy to fix and should not cause you to panic.

Most of the time, this error code appears from either clogged food or an installation issue. It is easiest to check for food debris first.

Begin by inspecting your dishwasher for any large food debris. Look around the spray arms, filters, and impellers.

Even if you do not see any visible food, clean out these parts to ensure that everything is removed. It is easy to use a turkey baster to clean out these parts.

Once you have cleaned out everything manually, try running the dishwasher to see if that helped.

Run a regular or heavy-duty cycle with no dishes or detergent. This will allow you to flush out the unit and test the drain function.

If the drain is still not acting properly, then you should check the drain hose. A drain hose can become kinked whenever something pushes against it. LG dishwasher problems

The drain hose will be under the sink. Straighten the hose if it is kinked or there is something pressed against it.

2.     Dishwasher Wash Motor Failed (LE Error Code)

Another common problem with LG dishwashers is that the dishwasher’s wash motor fails.

This will cause an LE Error Code to pop up on your display screen.

There are two reasons that this error code will pop up on your display: either the wire loom is caught in the insulation or the sump assembly is no longer operating properly.

If the LE Error Code is appearing because the wire loom is caught in the insulation, then you simply need to put a piece of soft, Teflon material between the wire loom and insulation panel.

This will prevent them from getting caught and breaking in the future.

However, this error code also indicates a bad sump assembly. If this is the problem for you, you will need to install a new sump.

If you hear the dishwasher trying to run but the dishwasher will not operate, then the sump is probably to blame.

To fix this problem, begin by removing the dishwasher from its housing. Remove the panel from the back of the dishwasher.

You will do this by disconnecting electrical connections, undoing all of the assemblies, removing the spring compression clamps, and unscrewing the holding clamps.

Once the old stump is removed, install the new one in the reverse order.

Once it is in place, reassemble the entire dishwasher and place it back into its compartment underneath the counter.

3.     Dishwasher Not Turning ON

Many LG dishwasher owners complain that their dishwasher does not turn on.

The most common reason for this issue is that the noise filter malfunctions.

This causes the dishwasher to seem like it has no power and not respond to any buttons used on the control board.

If this is the case for you, then the only way to fix this problem is to replace the noise filter in the dishwasher. Luckily, this process is relatively easy.

The first thing you should do is check the breaker in your home’s main power panel.

Make sure that it is placed on or that the wires are not tripped. This could be an easy fix to the problem.

To make sure that power is actually getting to your dishwasher, use a screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the bottom cover on and remove the screw holding the cover on the power box.

Use a

multimeter to check the voltage between the white and black wires. If there is voltage, then the noise filter is surely to blame. Turn the breaker off.

With the breaker off, open the dishwasher and access the inside front panel.

Separate the inside door panel from the outside door panel to access the control panel between the two.

Use a

multimeter to check the fuse for continuity, meaning that it should show zero.

If the fuse is bad, then you need to replace the control board too. LG dishwasher problems

Remove the dishwasher from under the counter. Locate the noise filter assembly and disconnect the wires.

Unscrew the screws. Shift the noise filter to the right to pull it out. Now, install the new noise filter in its place. Reassemble your dishwasher.

4.     Dishwasher Leaking On The Floor

Another common problem of LG dishwashers is that they can leak on the floor, which wastes water and can cause water damage.

The most common reason for this problem is a broken water valve.

Begin by disconnecting the appliance. Then, remove the water valve underneath the dishwasher.

Remove the four screws that hold the water valve in place. Unplug the harness and remove the waterline from the water valve.

Now, connect the water hose to the new water valve. Install the electrical harness around the valve and put it in place by reinstalling the screws.

Reassemble the rest of the dishwasher.

5.     Dishwasher Leaking Water Into The Drain Pan, Triggering Flood Switch (AE Error Code)

Finally, the last common problem associated with LG dishwashers is that the dishwasher leaks water into the drain pan, which triggers the flood switch.

When this happens, an AE Error Code will pop up on your display.

Often, this problem is due to a broken lower spray arm, which can be difficult to detect

It is most difficult to determine whether or not the leak is being caused by a broken lower spray arm since you cannot see how the spray arm functions while the dishwasher is running.

You will want to check for any scratches, cracks, or damage, but some of the damage will be difficult to see with your eyes.

To fix this problem, you will need to install a new lower spray arm. Begin by removing the faulty spray arm using a screwdriver.

Then, simply install a new lower spray arm in the place of the old, broken one.

Other causes of this code include:

  • Faulty door seal
  • Faulty vent and fan assembly

To figure out the cause of the leak, begin the wash cycle, and see where the water is exiting the dishwasher.

If the water exits into the overflow drain port, then you can expect the issue to be the door seal or the broken lower spray arm.

  2. We have had multiple problems with our 2.5 year old LG top control dishwasher and are ready to junk it in favor of a simpler, cheaper, and more reliable brand. We think there are just too many sensors and options that make it too sensitive (and complicated to operate). Whenever we turn it on, we never know what weird unexplainable glitch will occur (e.g., it occasionally repeats its ending song throughout the night).

  3. Our new topcontrol LG quad wash dishwasher, keeps feeding in (what we believe is) dirty water through its left side wall out let. We think that this water is coming from the garbage disposal.

What exactly is the left water outlet? Could not find mention for that in any videos about installation. Why would it be feeding back dirty water?

  7. Hey there,

I have had my LG dishwasher for 6 months and now the “be” light has come on. The cycle will stop about twenty minutes before it’s supposed to be done and then the “be” light comes on. I have tried a hard reset, started using the recommended detergent, re-leveled the machine, even tried the milk in a shallow bowl trick but to no avail. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  8. Hi. My LG dishwasher 3850DD3006J from 12/2012 has started leaving a white residue on the clean dishes. You can only notice it on clear glassware, but it’s on everything. It has occasional issues with the control panels. Wife says a couple times it shut off after only 10 minutes. In the case of the residue I think it completed the cycle…no soap in dispenser. Ideas? Thanks.

    • Our old LG dishwasher would do the exact same thing a while back -intermittently. Then it started occasionally making growling noises during wash cycle. Now (about 2 years later) we’re having to replace the pump/motor assembly -about $250 for dyi. The pump that went out circulates the water through the machine (and filter) so maybe that’s why. Good luck!

  9. My LG LDF7774ST is 6 years old and gets hung up in the drain cycle (“OF”). If I turn off the dishwasher, discontinue the chosen cycle, I can manually drain the unit without issue by pressing the “Delicate” & “Dual Control” simultaneously for 3 seconds. Do I have a processer issue? Is it worth repairing?

    Thank you for your time.

  10. My dish washer makes a gear grinding noise after it drains out. Than it makes a noise like if the pump it having a hard time pumping water to the propellers to wash. It’s just making all kinds of noises and it started just today. Does anyone know what I need to do? It’s only 4 years old.

    • I think a piece of broken glass stuck there (I had to deal with it numerous times). Take the drain pump apart and clean it.

I have a similar problem, the power does come on, but no cycle select buttons work on left side of panel will work. When I unplug and then plug in the buttons will work. Some times they wont work the next day if unplugging and not starting the cycle right away?

  12. Hi, I have the exact same problem as described above by Diane Gasner, won’t reset or restart, lights blinking, beeping and the drain pump runs for 30 seconds or so then stops for a few minutes then repeats. I have put water in the bottom and it will drain when the pump comes on. Model number is LDF7774ST. Any assistance would be appreciated!

      • Same here! The little lights in the front. There are three and the middle one just blinks when I try to start. and the panel board just blinks time remaining, which is the initial time, because it won’t start.

  13. Have LG dishwasher for two years, never finishes a cycle, beeps, turns off mid cycle. On third control panel board, no change however. LG won’t help because we can find the receipt. My 12 year old dishwasher worked better than this piece of junk… $1000 invested and have yet to run a perfect cycle.

My Lg dishwasher will start up for 3 mins. It will run the water and it will wait for 2mins and will bring up the E1 error code and then the water will drain. The dishwasher is about 10yrs old. I have tried to reset, tilting the machine, but nothing works.

  16. My LG dishwasher sometimes when I press the start button the display counts down from 4 to 1 and the pump comes on for about 30 seconds and the washer powers off. Eventually after a few hours it works normally.

    • Do you press and hold button? Or just press? Sounds like, when you want to reset current cycle, you need to press and hold for 3-5 seconds the Start button ( For some dishwashers its Cancel, Reset or Stop buttons) and then dishwasher cancel cycle and will drain water out

      • Can’t clear the AE code to restart the dishwasher. Not leaking but can’t run it. AE keeps beeping, have tried everything short of tearing it apart. Thanks for any help.
