Samsung Washer Not Spinning? 5 Things To Check

If you’re experiencing the issue of your Samsung washer not spinning, then this article can help you to determine possible solutions to get your machine back in action.

We will describe 5 most common reasons why washer is not spinning or why it won’t finish the spin cycle – and how to fix it.

There are two types of washing machines: top-load and front-load.

Though both types of washers share some similar problems, each type also has its own unique culprits related to no spin.

Samsung Washer not spinning – possible solutions

Suspension Worn Out

If your top loading Samsung washing machine getting  UE, UL or dC error code, it means there is an issue with the “Unbalanced Load”, so the washer drum is unable to spin.

This is sometimes caused when you have a large load in your washer that exceeds the limit.

But the most common issue is when the suspension, which supports the drum, needs to be adjusted or maybe even replaced.

When the suspension springs begin to wear out, they can no longer absorb the excessive vibration, and fail to stabilize the washing machine drum.

Shock Absorbers (Front Loading Machine Only)

There are 4 shock absorbers that hold the plastic drum, which help compensate for all the vibrations coming from the drum during the spin cycle.

Depending on how often washing machine been used, these shock absorbers can wear out and lose their effectiveness.

It’s easy to check whether they are worn out or not by pushing down on the drum by hand. When you quickly release it, the drum should set in the initial position immediately, without bouncing up and down.

Think of how shock absorbers work on a car. Without them, after driving over a bump, the car would continue to bounce up and down for several moments before smoothing out again. The same principle applies to a washer.

When Samsung washer shakes during the spin cycle, due to worn shock absorbers, it will vibrate much more severely and trigger a vibration sensor. This will tell the washer that something is wrong and stop the cycle.

After a moment or so, the washer will attempt to spin again. This process will either repeat indefinitely until the cycle is over, or it will shut off and give an error code on the display.

Drum Nut Loose

A top-load washer drum has a nut at the bottom, which keeps the drum in place.

Sometimes, the normal vibration over long periods of time can cause the nut to loosen. Once the nut loosens, your drum will start wobbling excessively, especially when the washer goes to its spin cycle.

Make sure the nut is tight enough to prevent excess wobbling.

Drain pump Failed

When the drain pump gets clogged or jammed, it’s unable to drain the water completely.

In this case, the washer will not go into the spin cycle. It will try to spin, but eventually, it will stop, and an error code will show up on the display.

Broken plastic bracket

This is the most common Samsung front-loading Washer VRT problem and is what usually causes the washer to get stuck during its spin cycle.

There is a bracket on the backside of the front-loading Samsung washer which holds the wiring harness to the drum.

When this bracket gets loose or broken, it can trigger the vibration sensor causing the machine timer to jump around. Sometimes it will add time (extending your spin cycle), and other times it will shorten the cycle.

Either way, this is bad news for your laundry load. Time on the spin cycle may jump back and forth many times. Eventually your washer will stop, but your clothes may still be soaking wet, negating the purpose of the spin cycle altogether.

You can fix it by zip-tying the bracket to the drum as is shown in the picture below.

Faulty door lock

Most Samsung washers have a door lock with a feedback feature. It’s a tiny switch inside the door lock.

When the door is physically closed, this switch is closed as well, providing feedback to the control board.

But when the door is closed and the feedback switch is not physically closed, then the control board is notified that the door is open, and it will not allow the washer to go into its spin cycle.

It will actually try to spin again and again, but eventually, it will stop completely, showing an error code on the display.

So, in this case, you just need a new door lock for your washing machine.

  1. Hi Eugene
I have a Samsung WF80F5E5P4W. It has worked fine for 6 years, but suddenly today it didn’t want to spin the drum. It tries several times, causing the drum to rotate about 1 degree and then bounce back. It seems to drain correctly and all filters are clean. I get no error codes. Without power I can easily rotate the drum in both directions.

Would you have any idea where to start looking for errors?

  2. Hi Eugene,

My Samsung Top load (wa45m7050aw) wont spin or agitate, I get no code. When starting a wash all it does is click dump water stop, 10 seconds dump water, stop… this will go on for a good amount of time.

It will does drain. No glitches I can see.

    Thanks for your time.

  3. Samsung – Model – WA62H4300HP. Top Load.
Just stopped and didn’t drain in the middle of washing from what I came to know. Here is what I have tried so far

1- Checked that drain works manually when pulled the cable
2- The power I get to the drain machine is 12V
3- When I power on the machine. it gives the friendly normal beeps but then display panel shows ” – – ” for the fuzzy, Quick and Soak which is not right.
4- the display panel shows the numbers for bottom three options Jeans, Blanket and delicates.. so normal for these 3 buttons
5- the wash, rinse and spin buttons and work but not matter what it doesn’t take the water any more
6- I checked and water is there to the inlet valve
7- I have cleaned the water inlet and the small iron net inside that valve by spraying and using tooth brush.
8- Only once when I pressing the buttons, all the lights started dancing and machine drum started rolling like it does when checking the load but then dead silent again.. not sure what the combination was that I pressed but this happened once.

Any ideas what I can check next?

    • ok.. looks like point 3 above is normal for giving “–“. I also noticed if I turn on it after a long time it starts to starts showing the the dancing lights as if calculating how much time it should have shown but the drum didn’t spin at all this time.

  4. i have a samsung front load WF42H5000AWA2 that will not spin. The drain pump works will go through wash cycle but stop at spin. I have tried spin only and rinse & spin. It was suggested to change water pressure switch. i did that and it worked on rinse and spin with no clothes. i tried today with clothes with no luck. i manually drained the pump but no luck . anymore ideas?

    • Check white plastic bracket for the wire harness on the back of the machine, when you remove the back cover. Is it came loose? Broken? If yes, replace it or at least fix it (see info in the article)

  5. Hi, I have a front load samsung washer (model# WF328AAR/XAA) and in the middle of a wash it started making this weird chirp noise every 30 seconds or so. Went to investigate and it smelled electrical and wouldn’t go into a spin. It tries to move the drum, but only moves a couple inches and goes back to its resting state. Any ideas?

  6. Hi, I have a Samsung front load model WF209ANW/XAA. it runs until it gets to the spin/rinse cycle then stops The water does not drain but I have replaces the pump without any change. Also when I manually drain the water and just put it in the spin cycle it runs but wobbles quite a bit.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

      • Thanks for your reply. I found that the drain hose was clogged from the tub. I cleaned the drain hose and now it will turn but there is a cyclical scraping noise as if there is debris between the tubs or they are rubbing together. Also its wobbling quit a bit. With the top off and looking at the nylon external tub, should it be parallel to the floor (level) or is it supposed to be slanted towards the rear? When I try to manually move the tub by pushing back and forth with my hand it moves without a lot of resistance at the rear but not so much at the front. Thanks again

  7. Hi, I red in one of the comments that you don’t recommend Samsung for a washer. What do you recommend for front loading, 7-8 kg? Can you state few machines with varying prices?

    Thanks,
    Mordy

    • Hello, i can only tell from my experience where I had fewer calls from clients. But at the same time, it’s all about how much money you want to spend. I think even LG washer and dryer much better quality than Samsung. So my choice would be: LG or Electrolux

  8. Hey there,

My Samsung front loader (model #WF330ANW) will complete it’s full cycle without an error message, but the tumbler only vibrates during the spin cycle. Seems like it’s disconnected.

Based on reading the article, it sounds like I need to replace the shock absorbers. Eugene, would that be your recommendation given the description of my problem? Or does it sound like a separate issue?

    Thanks

  9. I have a wa40j3000a top load washer that won’t go into spin cycle. It makes a humming noise, stops, tries again with humming noise and comes up as error code where hot is flashing. Draining fine. Bad door sensor? Or motor?

  10. I have a Samsung front loader. After washing a couple of light weight rugs my washer started making loud noises during the spin cycle. It has now moved on to getting stuck on the last 4 minutes and not draining. Is this fixable?

    Thanks

  11. Your left out: “It has the name Samsung stamped on it.”
I have a samsung VRT plus and it is the biggest piece of junk I have ever tried to wash clothes with.
Had this washer for a bit over 2 years. Started out needing 3?, 4? service calls just to make it STOP LEAKING water all over the floor. The lack of an agitator and large tub is a nice idea, but a complete fail in application. Not only does it not clean clothes nearly as well as a machine with an agitator, but the extra space this allows is intentionally not used by the washing machine. It simply will not fill up high enough with water to wash blankets, or anything else relatively large that still easily fits inside this huge and beautiful looking tub.
This is all about looks, not function. Lots of bells and whistles… oh, and beeps. Pretty little sing-song beeps. This is what the engineers at Samsung think cleans clothes. They spent their time on pretty little beeping noises. I would rather have an ugly, 20 year old washer that actually works.
I have lost all of my respect for Samsung over this.

  12. Hi Eugene!

Looking forward for your expert advise.
I have a top load washer that keeps on spinning once pressed the power button.
    Sequence:
    (1) Plug in power cord
    (2) Press Power on button (once pressed, the washer keeps on spinning non stop.

    Below are the details:
    Model: WA11W9 9kg Topload

    Thanks much!

  13. If I lift the stainless drum there is a little bit of movement, not excessive, and a noise which could be little bit play in the bearing? But everything runs good under washing condition without noises. Could that little bit effect the whole drum to shake that bad …..

  14. Hi Eugene
    I have Samsung WF337AAG front-loader / it is a VRT Model from 2008.
It won’t go in full speed spinning because of bad vibration, so it try’s to distribute the load and try’s again…. I changed already all four damper like you mentioned in this article. But even after that, without any load in the drum the washer is not going into full speed in the spin cycle because of bad vibrations??
I don’t have the plastic bracket on the back of the drum ? Could it be the vibration sensor ? But were is it in my case. Please advise
    Thank you.

    • Does the stainless drum have excessive movements up and down? Try to lift the drum a little, is there some noticeable movements? It could be the problem with the spider or with the bearings

  15. Hi Eugene,

I have a front-loader Thor ST100X machine (at least 15yo, I can’t even find a manual on Internet) and when I have a full load, the drum doesn’t go to the high spin (back and forth agitation works fine) and some water is left inside. The way I solve this is to run the spin cycle with 1/3 of the wet clothes.

This issue does not occur when the load is not full.

What do you think the problem comes from?

Thanks a lot for your time!
P.S.: My carbon brushes are still ok.

  16. Hi!

I have a Samsung wf80f5efw2w that started randomly not spinning in any cycle.
Sometimes movimg the washer was enough to the motor to star to spin, but I already disassembled the back of the washer and checked the connectors and they all look fine. The motor works normally at regular speed when it spins. Any ideas??

    Thanks in advance!

    • Something triggering vibration sensor. This sensor does not allow the washer to start spinning, thinking load not distributed inside. Try to change shock absorbers and also check wire harness plastic bracket on the back (see in the article)

  17. Hi Eugene,
    I have a Samsung VRT washer DC68-02807A.
I have loaded in clothes and towels, it started the wash but when it got to the spinning cycle I guessed it stopped. The water drained but the clothes were soaking wet as it did not spin dry. I try the start cycle again to get it to work. The lights comes on but it does not spin and there is a humming sound.
Could the pump motor be the problem?
If so, where can I go to get this specific model pump motor part?
    Thank you.

    • Hello Fio…As long as it drained most of the water, then its not a drain pump issue. It can be related with vibration sensor or broken plastic bracket on the back of the washer. it just not proceed to the spin cycle

      • We have this exact problem with our samsung front loader. We tried the zip tie fox to no avail (it was not broken or seeming loose, but it couldn’t hurt). Any other suggestions?

      • Hard to say what else you need to check, but try to reconnect or even clean with alcohol, connectors on the motor control board (small one). If it will not help, try to replace the vibration sensor on the top of the drum. Unfortunately, for me, it’s not easy to give you some recommendations without seeing it

    • You mean it sounds like humming? Take a look underneath the washer, maybe something got stuck in the motor. I believe you have a direct drive motor. Also reconnect connection to themotor and position sensor.

  18. I have a Samsung Washer that won’t spin, what would be the reasons it wouldn’t, would the rotor Starter have something to do with it, how do I know if it’s bad??

  19. Thank You!!! I’ve been scouring the internet to try and find a fix for our front loader being out of balance. Issue was the wiring bracket coming off and pulling the heat sensor wires out entirely. Replaced heat sensor wires and zip tied the bracket as in the picture above. Washing machine is working beautifully now. It hasn’t worked this well for quite a while. Thanks again for posting this!!!
